I have to cancel my report from yesterday, as the problem was found to be on the AP side (a Linksys WAG2000G ADSL router). My WiFi connection works again since I restarted the AP. I believe its uptime was over one year but it was still working perfectly for wired connections and still visible on the WiFi side, broadcasting the correct ESSID, but obviously it was in a state which did no more allow connections to be accepted. The fact that the problem appeared just after upgrading to Karmic remain unexplained and may be a pure coincidence. I apologize for any inconvenience, but I would also suggest to anybody having this problem to restart first its AP/router even if it seems to operate 100% normally.
