@John D Marsden I have seen this bug on several machines, where I couldn't boot different versions of the kernel, and it wasn't 100% reproducible. (rootdelay fixes nothing)
However, the problem you have with kernel 2.6.32-22 seems to be reproducible. I have experienced the same on one pc and filed a new bug about that.
