for the applications listed in indcator-applet to open correctly.
What happend instead:
the application receives a pid (pidgin for example) but never creates a
application window. All the processes which i start from mmessaging menu
exhibit this behaviour be it pidgin, gwibber, evolution. I am able to
start them from gnome-menu. Below is what all the applications are doing
in strace, pidgin for example:

Indicator-applet messaging menu not opening programs correctly. I see that a
pid gets created however the application is not shown in any desktop. Starting
the applications from standard gnome menu works. indicator applets messaging
menu randomly succeeded in starting applications twice, that success does not
persist reboot.
