My computer (512MB ram might be the cause) is starting much faster without/when 
reprofiling ureadahead too.
plymouth sometimes even comes up _AFTER_ kdm.

However, for people around me "starting" means time between grub and
login screen.

suggestion:  Would it be possible to use ureadahead only for 
kde/qt/gtk/gnome/.... part of the boot?
   Preloading kde when idle at kdm screen seems much more reasonable to me than 
doing that during boot and slowing it down quite a lot
