Okay this seems to be an issue on certain machines. I would like to follow the instructions here and turn pulse audio off.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/StopPulseaudio Then restart and see if the problem persists. I cannot reproduce this. It sounds like the indicator is stuck in a loop polling pulse to come alive.
