Does installing and using the STA driver as proposed in the Restricted
drivers manager application (System -> Administration), display the
correct connection status?
I'm aware that this is not ideal, but if it is the case it seems there
is an issue with the b43/ssb driver, as already reported in other bugs
i've seen.
