Launch,
Sorry I think i misread your bug. I thought you were having trouble adding your
computer to your account. It is curious though that u1sdtool -q or killall
ubuntuone-login would disturb your Gnome Panels.

Does Ubuntu boot and the Ubuntu One applet has an exclamation point?

On Karmic something that has helped some people with Connect on Start Up
issues, is to delay the start of the ubuntuone-client-applet . You can
do this by going to System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications look
for an entry for Ubuntu One. Then click ADD if its not their an EDIT if
it is there, and try to delay the syncdaemon start up by 10 seconds
using 'sleep 10'.

So the command in System>Preferences>Startup Applications>Ubuntu One
would look like:

sleep 10 && ubuntuone-client-applet

We would like to help you further debug the issue. If you would like to
please attach the logs to this bug report using the 'Add Attachment or
Patch' button at the bottom of the page. Just zip your
$HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/ folder and attach the zip here. You can zip
the folder by right-clicking on it and selecting compress.

thank you,
duanedesign
