I modified the test case in the op a bit, as I think it's important to have Karmic's wine1.2 .deb in the cache.
** Description changed: Binary package hint: wine1.2 As per summary: failed to install when upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 (was previously using Ubuntu 9.10). I'm using 64-bit Ubuntu. TEST CASE: 1. use karmic - 2. install wine - 3. upgrade to lucid with update-manager - 4. verify that it fails with a error when wine1.2 gets installed + 2. install wine1.2 + 3. install wine to replace wine1.2 + 4. upgrade to lucid with update-manager + 5. verify that it fails with a error when wine1.2 gets installed - 5. use fresh karmic - 6. install wine - 7. run "update-manager --proposed" - 8. verify that it works now + 6. use fresh karmic + 7. install wine1.2 and then wine as above + 8. run "update-manager --proposed" + 9. verify that it works now - (due to the nature of the bug I think its ok to only test 5-8 as the bug + (due to the nature of the bug I think its ok to only test 6-9 as the bug itself is sufficiently reproduced).
