Yes, the problem seems to persist in Ubuntu 10.04 as well.
I can easily provoke the crash without running Firefox, by the way. Actually, I 
don't think the problem is releated to that app at all.
Placing OpenOffice in, for example, workspace #1 and some heavy apps in 
workspace #2 (or equivalent) usually does the trick. Fast switching between 
workspaces, followed by typing in OpenOffice guarantees a crash when running 
multiple mid-"sized" apps.

It might be relevant that I'm on an Acer TravelMate 2420 laptop with 256mb of 
RAM.
This does of course put some limits on Ubuntu's performance, but none of the 
other apps I use on a daily basis (like Audacity, RhythmBox, VLC, Firefox, 
Chrome) has crashed like that yet, even when I'm multitasking like crazy.
