I am running 9.04 where the bug occurred.  I uninstalled openoffice from the
Ubuntu repositories and installed it from source.  I fumbled with it
terribly, and after many long hours got it installed.  I have not seen a
repeat of the issue since then.  I don't want to attempt to reproduce it due
to the time commitment.  If it is helpful I will change the status to solved
or N/A, though I don't know that the problem is solved, just that I don't
want to commit the time to look for it.
