I wonder if my problem could have to do with different USB ports? When I first plug in the modem (syslog_1), the GSM modem first claims ttyUSB0 and then ttyUSB2. When I try to connect (syslog_2) modem-manager tries to open ttyUSB0 and gets no carrier.
