I've tested Feisty Herd 5 Desktop CD on two systems, and on both the CD
fails to eject, though the splash remains on the screen. Pressing
Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then Ctrl+Alt+F8 yields much the same messages as above
(from memory):

----

* Unmounting temporary filesystems ....
umount: /cow: not found
                 [Fail]
* Deactivating swap .... [OK]
* Unmounting local filesystems ...
umount2: Device or resource busy
umount: /cdrom busy - remounting read-only
umount2: Device or resource busy
umount: /rofs busy - remounting read-only
                 [OK]
mount: Function not implemented
* Casper is resyncing snapshots and caching reboot files:
Please remove disk and close tray ..

Can I suggest retitling this bug to "live CD fails to eject on shutdown
(with strange messages)"?
