Public bug reported: As a consequence of not identifying their host OS properly, Ubuntu browsers fail to identify it correctly in all cases but one (stock Firefox).
As a result, 1/3 or more of Ubuntu users are not correctly recognized by online statistics. There are two possible solutions: Properly, promptly, and consistently package the latest versions of every popular browser for Ubuntu with correct useragents, or Get upstream browser developers to use uname to set host OS useragent information. ** Affects: chromium-browser Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: epiphany-browser Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: firefox Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #619465 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=619465 ** Also affects: epiphany-browser via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=619465 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: Mozilla Bugzilla #567679 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567679 ** Also affects: firefox via https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567679 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: code.google.com/p/chromium/issues #44874 http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=44874 ** Also affects: chromium-browser via http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=44874 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- Ubuntu web browsers do not properly identify host https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584758 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
