>From what I can remember, the 'autorun.inf' file contains two things:

  (a) a .bmp file to display
  (b) a program to automatically run

There's a hint that Vista is doing something slightly different:

  http://www.phdcc.com/shellrun/autorun.htm#vista

May or may not be related:

"The action key is only used in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
(SP2) or later. It is only supported for drives of type DRIVE_REMOVABLE
and DRIVE_FIXED. In the case of DRIVE_REMOVABLE, the action key is
required. An action command in the Autorun.inf file of an audio CD or
movie DVD is ignored and these media continue to behave as in Windows XP
Service Pack 1 (SP1) and earlier."

The top-hit for the message:

"The operating system denied access to the specified file."

is actually one of our own forums:

  http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-20491.html

Amazingly, that message is from March 2005 (2 years ago), so this may
not be Vista specific; it could be that Vista is just coming with new
defaults to not run 'Autorun.inf' from CD (there are registry keys for
preventing this auto-execution).
