Mizanur,

I figured out what happened to my installation - sort of. I played
around a lot with the programs installed and did much of it manually. I
feel that I removed or changed some important installed program. To fix
it, I reinstalled the OS and then used the "Synaptic Package Manager"
(SPM) to load the program (Eclipse) that I wanted.

The SPM, I figured out, is an alternative to the Ubuntu Software Center
and seems more mature. It contains all of the dependencies necessary
when you load a particular piece of software, so you achieve better
results and do not end up with vague error messages.

One last thing I would recommend - use the VMWare player to host your
Ubuntu session while learning. (It's free from vmware.com) You can
create an image at a certain point and then reload it if something goes
wrong - nothing much lost and time saved.

Good luck!

 Regards,
Chris

Status in “synaptic” package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
Binary package hint: synaptic

I am using Ubuntu 9.10- the Karmic Koala and Synaptic Package Manager
0.62.5. When I select the Eclipse IDE for use, after it downloads all of
the files it needs, Synaptic throws an error. The dialog reads, "An
error occurred". Looking at the details, it says, "E: Internal Error,
Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on mountall". What should
I do to correctly install Eclipse?
