Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. These UI change decisions come from the upstream GNOME
developers. For example, there are new UI guidelines specifying if some
menu item should or shouldn't have an icon instead of having more or
less random icons assigned to most but not all items.
The gconf keys are under /desktop/gnome/interface/ .
