Could you please try installing the package linux-alsa-driver-
modules-2.6.32-22-generic from the Ubuntu Audio dev PPA
(http://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive)?
Once installed, please reboot, and try to use your microphone again,
making sure you removed the above mentioned model entry from
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
affects ubuntu/alsa-driver
