That's ubuntu phylosophy.. you are a power user, you want to compile a kernel 
manually and choose the kernel configuration?
Well, don't use ubuntu. That's what Ben Collins said to us.

Perhaps why you don't have excluded this feature from kernel source if
you think it's experimental and unstable?

If it's included, it should compile, even if it's experimental or buggy
(in behaviour).

You can also see that many of the *-source packages in ubuntu are broken
from years, there are bug reports, but they are in "universe", so we
shouldn't care....
