My workaround-

via synaptic remove plasma-widget-networkmanagement and network-manager

my unsecured wireless reconnects with it's previously working wlan.

Never do a

sudo aptitude -f install

I browsed system log to find the 2 packages installed before it told me
to reboot and couldn't find the access point. It had assumed itself as
192.168.1.1 which is the access point's address. Conflict, I'd say. Plus
the network configuration gui would not accept a wireless ssid without
entering some sort of WPA. There is no WPA assigned to my access point.
My nearest neighbor is over a mile away. Nearest road is 1/2 mile away.
Why so simple has to be so hard is no guess.
