Yes! This seems to have been a duplicate of the above mentioned bug. I
have applied the patch and the screensaver indeed works with the gui not
crashing. Thank for your patience with my bumbling through the process.
The unfortunate thing now is that I have to go through the whole thing
again. It appears that I have more than one issue as the monitor has,
twice now, gone blank as I was attempting to add a comment. But again
thank you for steering me in the right direction on the sceensaver
issue.
