I get the error (sometimes) when I boot up, before the splash screen would normally appear. At this point, my only option is to hold the power button down to power down, and to re-start. At this time, as often as not, I get a good boot, although it does appear that the same message is flashing on my scree, followed immediately by the Ubuntu splash screen. The exact message last time (this morning) was:
