On a fresh install of Kubuntu 10.04:
Uninstall the following packages...
kopete-message-indicator
kopete
libkopete4
konqueror
konqueror-kubuntu-shortcuts
The favourites menu will continue to initially list konqueror and kopete
(minus their icons). This is true both for the initial account and any
additional ones you create.
