I'm afraid that went way over my head. I have done a default install of 10.4LTS and am trying to listen to youtube videos. I have no sound output through the internal speaker, however, if I plug headphones in I can hear sound.
Looking through sound preferences (from the menu icon), I can see two options under output. Currently, simultaneous output to internal analogue stereo is selected. Changing the setting to internal audio stereo makes no difference, including any selected connector. Thanks for the help, so far.
