Hello! Yesterday (2010-May-30) I came across with a similar problem, I upgraded from 9.10 ->10.04 via update manager and rebooted and I see the Ubuntu logo with the red dots loading (looks awful and I assume that is loading) for a few seconds, then the screen goes black (no login screen) I just get the login prompt.
So I decided to do a fresh install, on another computer I burned the ISOs, but when I tried the livecd the desktop never loads, it just goes into a black screen, then the command line appears I have tried the live CD i386 & amd64 and same result. Have tried it on several desktop and laptops, so I figure the ISOs are corrupted, so tried burning new ones on a different machine and I get the same result. Some quick details of the machines I have tried the 10.04 ISOs: Toshiba laptop - nVidia video card P4HT 2GB Ram Toshiba laptop - Ati video card C2D 4GB Ram Asus desktop - Asus video card C2D 4GB Ram Dell laptop - intel video card C2Q 8GB Ram HP desktop - intel video card C2Q 4GB Ram So I downloaded and burned the ISOS for 9.10 on the machine that I burned the 10.04 ISOS, and the freshly 9.10 burned ISOs work just fine (so I can assume that my DVDRW unit is working properly) all machines are up and running fine with 9.10. Also tried on some friends laps/desktops and nope, I get the Ubuntu screen with the red dots for a moment, then it just goes back to a black screen with the promp. No error messages appear either with the installed or running the livecd, and no desktop or login screen ever appears. Anyone have an idea of what the problem might be? -- Lucid Lynx: Black screen on start up, no login screen. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/567971 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
