Public bug reported:

Ubuntu versions: Karmic and Lucid

Description: I'm using a Lenovo SL400c laptop with Intel 4500MHD
graphics card. After pressing OK in grub2, the system is supposed to
kick into KMS and the throbbing Ubuntu logo with the black background on
Karmic is supposed to come in. However, the grub screen merely "freezes"
and nothing's show for approximately 5-6 seconds. After that, the Karmic
boot sequence starts.

I've noticed a similar problem on Lucid. However, the behavior is
slightly different. After pressing OK in grub2, the screen goes blank
for a few seconds for the same duration as Karmic, approx 5-6 seconds
and then Plymouth starts.

I noticed a similar problem in openSUSE 11.2 and Mandriva 2010.0 (which
uses Plymouth). So its leading me to believe that its something related
to X.org and/or the kernel. However, I was able to fix this under
openSUSE by adding the following line to /boot/grub/menu.list :-
video=LVDS-1:1280x800.
