My problem occurs in point 5 on the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace
page: "The program will continue running. Perform any actions necessary
to reproduce the crash. If the program hangs but doesn't crash you can
press ctrl+c in gdb while the program is frozen and then continue with
the next step."

Gnome-settings-daemon does not hang or crash, but continues to function
normally (aside from the 100% CPU usage), and pressing ctrl+c prints
'^C' to the terminal but does not kill gnome-settings-daemon or present
me with a gdb command line from which to generate a backtrace.
