Hi,
I just tested this by:
1) u1sdtool -q
2) rm ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf
3) u1sdtool --start (also tested it using u1 preferences app)
and can't reproduce the error, syncdaemon starts ok.
What syncdaemon.conf file did you removed?
There might be two config files one for your user:
~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf and the system wide/base config:
/etc/xdg/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf
if /etc/xdg/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf was deleted syncdaemon will not
work as the is required.
