Public bug reported:
I upgraded from Edgy to Feisty using update-manager. Everything appeared
to go smoothly, but once I rebooted in Feisty, the network was
unavailable. My wifi card is the only network connection on that
machine, and it requires madwifi. Previously, I had used the kernel-
restricted-modules (or whatever the package is actually called) version
of the ath driver in Edgy.
Unfortunately, update-manager does not include the restricted part of
the distro in its /etc/apt/sources.list. This leaves me in the position
where I can't get on the network with my Feisty kernel (even though just
about everything else seems OK) and I can't boot back into an older Edgy
kernel.
Catch 22.
I've tried stuffing around with finding the right .deb(s) from another
machine, shoving them onto a usb key, and installing the deb(s) onto the
stranded machine. This leaves me in dependency hell, and I will try
other workarounds before trying to resolve those dependencies by hand.
Anyone else dependent upon the madwifi/ath driver for network
connectivity will get caught in this when upgrading to Feisty from Edgy.
