The error in the logs is:

Setting up ifupdown (0.6.8ubuntu21.2) ...
debconf: DbDriver "config": /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another 
process: Resource temporarily unavailable
dpkg: error processing ifupdown (--configure):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

So you had some other process running that had the configuration
database locked, preventing any packages from using debconf (there are
other similar errors in your logs for other packages).  That's not a bug
in ifupdown; closing as invalid.

If the problem is reproducible on a second attempt, I can help you debug
to find out what process is blocking debconf and why.
