I have almost the same on a Lenovo R500, but (following the description above) the keyboard controller does not reset (no flashing keyboard lights, and the machine does not power off automatically (backlight of the monitor stays on too). The computer needs to be stopped the hard way (pressing the powerbuttton +4sec). On next boot, the best you can get is a check for corrupted file system :-(
