I solved this problem by removing the sugar-toolkit from the PPA. (via
https://edge.launchpad.net/~sugarteam/+archive/ppa/+delete-packages )
~dfarning ACK'd the removal. The sugar-tookit package in Lucid has no
problems and should work with our version.
To resolve the problem on current systems, you will manually have to downgrade
the sugar-toolkit package to the latest version released in Ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install sugar-toolkit=0.88.0-1
