Two things to try. First, install the 2.6.34 mainline kernel:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-lucid/

See if that fixes things for you. If not, then boot with the same
kernel, but add "acpi_sleep=sci_force_enable" to the kernel command
line. To do this, edit /etc/default/grub and add the text to the end of
the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT variable. Then run "sudo update-grub".

Please let us know if either of these changes fixes things for you.
