Binary package hint: indicator-applet
Since I freshly installed 10.04 coming from 9.10, I have had nothing but
problems with the indicator applet. Back in 9.10 the notification area had all
the tray icons and they had context menus and they had popup indication and
they all worked fine.
But now it requires me to have both the indicator applet and the notification
area in the panel at the same time for all important icons to show, because for
example the volume management icon wont even show anymore in the notification
area.
That by itself would still be fine with me but there are many more problems
with the indicator applet that make it a useability nightmare:
- It has no rightclick menu and removes the rightclicking from every icon it
incorperates
- It has no mouseover indications and removes them from icons as well
--> makes battery indicator useless since charge is not shown AT ALL
--> makes kTorrent tray icon unnecessarily complicated to use
- It steals icons from the notification area and reduces their functionality
and useability as well
- Has way to large spacing in between the icons and clogs up the panel
- Cant disable the "message indicator applet thingy" which is useless to me
anyway since I neighter use evolution nor empathy
- Requires (as stated before) that notification area is used as well for all
icons to show
WHY can't we just have ONE system tray applet that has ALL icons and is USEABLE?
(give me back my notification area)
