I doubt that this is the ideal place to say this, but in case anyone
else goes down this path, getting my wireless working again involved
copying /lib/udev/firmware-helper from the old feisty udev package to
the same location once the new udev from debian unstable is installed.
Apparently the debian udev package does not include this file.  This
goes to show that ubuntu's udev package is indeed very tricked out. ;-)
