Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

1):~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04
2):~$ apt-cache policy gnome-appearance-properties
W: Unable to locate package gnome-appearance-properties
3) Expect to set preferences in the Appearance Preferences dialogue and that
they be preserved after reboot.
4) "Theme" and "Background" preferences are preserved but "Fonts" and "Visual
Effects" are not.

It always reverts back to Visual Effects; "None" upon reboot or logoff.
Note: The None setting forces my PC to exhibit wacky renderings making
it unusable. Normal or Extra settings function as expected.

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
