Running Lucid and Jaunty while network down. Tried to use distro DVD to add packages. Synaptic reported that it could not find the drive etc. I used a shell and found /dev/cdrom, /dev/cdrw, /dev/dvd and /dev/dvdrw. I could use 'ls' to view the contents of the media. I could use 'eject XXXX' to spit the media drawer out. The desktop file manager saw the media as mounted. I could unmount and remount from the desktop. Synaptic did not see the package DVD whether the media was mounted or unmounted.
