It also helps if in the /etc/fstab file you add the following to the options 
column:
,uid=1000,gid=1000
(change them to your appropriate uid and gid; find them in your /etc/passwd 
file)

Also since I am behind a proxy server, I had to modify the 
/etc/davfs2/davfs2.conf file by uncommenting some lines:
 - set "use_proxy" to 1
 - define the variable "proxy" with the proxy server being used

Finally, I reconfigured davfs2 to allow unprivileged users to mount the idisk 
drive using:
% sudo dpkg-reconfigure davfs2   (then select "Yes")

Seems to work now for me.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04.
