I marked this bug as duplicate of 430245.
Adding nomodeset option to /etc/default/grub to line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset"
is a workaround as stated in 430245
Hardware: Acer Aspire 5020 / ATI Radeon x700
It also seems that with nomodesetoption there is no need for --quirk-vbe-post in
/usr/lib/pm-utils/video-quirks/20-video-quirk-pm-acer.quirkdb
section
match system.hardware.product regex 5000|5020|5500
addquirk --quirk-vbe-post
since removing quirk did not have any noticeable effect on resuming when
superficially tested.
