Upgraded to Lucid from Karmic. Worked well for 1month then rebooted one
day and this happened.

Before the login page this error message pops-up '/usr/lib/libgconf2-4
/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256'

and at the bottom right corner this error message shows 'The
configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been installed
correctly. Please contact your computer administrator'

and after you log-in both messages display again.

The desktop boots in metacity(my default is compiz) and no gnome-panel

When I run gnome-panel from the terminal
(gnome-panel:11690): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_accelerator_parse: assertion
`accelerator != NULL' failed

** (gnome-panel:11690): WARNING **: Unable to parse mouse modifier
'(null)'

When I run compiz from the terminal
WARNING: Application calling GLX 1.3 function "glXCreatePixmap" when GLX 1.3 is
not supported! This is an application bug!
compiz (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format

They both work though.
I have tried everything from the previous posts but nothing works.
