I have this problem in Mythbuntu 9.10. It seems to only occur after a
crash or power failure, however. If, after it comes back up, I power
down the system and then power it back up, the auto-login seems to start
working again. If I just let the system reboot, however, it goes to the
login screen. Since I am running this system as a MythTV Front End
(i.e. Home theater PC with the keyboard across the room) it is very
annoying when it happens. I usually control the system via VNC from my
laptop, but X11 has to be running to use VNC. If I connect to the
system via SSH and issue a reboot command (in other words, reboot it a
second time after it rebooted due to the crash), it seems to be random
chance whether it will auto-login after the reboot or not.
