Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: base-installer
Can you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE set the default vertical refresh rate to
70. If your goal is to make this a user friendly, global operating
system, then PLEASE set the cotton pickin default vertical refresh rates
to 70, not 85, not 60, but 70.
Why did I choose this random number? Because when you have LCD monitors
85 is too high and could fry them, 60 is too low and CRT users will have
a cow, but 70 is a frequency that ALL monitors should be able to handle
and users should tolerate. Just because I use a VGA plug doesn't mean I
have a CRT monitor.
Next, why not set a range that all users can use, like 60, 65, 70, 75,
80, 85 as DEFAULTS. Everyone, not just a few hardcore gamers would be
satisified. This ain't rocket science. While your at it do the same
thing for horizontal rates if needed. Fix this once and be done for
life.
Look in the Ubuntu user forums, search for something difficult like
refresh and see how many posts there are.
Sorry for the rant, and this is not the first time I've posted this. I
was hoping in Dapper you would have gotten a little smarter and fixed
this once and for all. I am very disappointed.
