Regarding Jiri Trnka's comment #37, a closer look at the man page for start-stop-daemon at
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/lucid/man8/start-stop-daemon.8.html seems to show that there should be no difference in behavior whether or not the "--" portion of the command is present.
