Plesae try installing the package linux-alsa-driver-
modules-2.6.32-22-generic from the Ubuntu Audio Dev PPA,
http://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive and reboot your system.
Please report back as to whether HDMI sound works properly.
Please also check that you have selected HDMI output in the volume
control preferences. Click once on the speaker icon in the top panel,
and choose "sound preferences". Click on the hardware tab, and make
sure you have an HDMI profile selected in the profile dropdown box
located at the bottom of the window.
