Forgot to mention:
1. my servers automatically update very often (in /etc/crontab), so my 9.10 was
not rusty before I started the upgrade to 10.04
2. during the upgrade there were also numerous reports "only partial update
will/can be made" forcing me to recontinue after it's
been done
