@Jeremy; Thanks for the advice. I tried the 2.6.32-0206321505-generic
kernel as suggested. This build contains a driver that works for me ! I
no longer have to compile the source from realtek.

Now for the bad....

This driver also won't switch to Gigabit mode with my card :(

I have tried other gigabit devices working with the same switch and
port. Cable has been replaced with other cat 5.e and cat 6 cables etc.
Switch and card are both from TP-Link so should be compatible.
