Public bug reported:

I installed Oracle 10g R2 32-bit on Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit. I know Oracle
is not supported on Ubuntu, so you decide what you want to do with this
bug report ;-)

After installation I can start Oracle and its listener just fine. But
I/O performance is appaling: I am doing an import of a big database and
it takes forever. When I look with iotop I see a total disk write speed
of 950K/s top and often less. The db writer process often has only
400K/s, the logwriter around 140K/s.

The file system is ext4; I will try again later on an ext3 drive to see
if that makes a difference.

Normally IO on this system is not slow; for instance gzip -d for that
same dump on that same drive reports 70M/s usually.

The machine is a Core I7 920 running 2.6.32-23-generic-pae #37-Ubuntu
SMP Fri Jun 11 09:26:55 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
