As Wit Wilinski says, fixing this may well involve patching the kernel. However, I disagree on the suggested bug reporting policy: - As I understand it, (k)ubuntu bugs get reported here. This is the method that is the most accessible for ubuntu users, and this is where ubuntu users are directed to report bugs. - The bugs may (and often do) get reported also upstream. This is what the Launchpad links to other bug trackers serve for. (The bugs may also get reported in other distributions' bug trackers.) - In my understanding, the essential part of the Launchpad philosophy is to try to integrate different sources of bug information.
