I have this same problems for years with the same LCD monitor using
different releases of ubuntu and different computers. The monitor is
ACER X233H, and it will simply display a grey box showing "cable not
connected" when it should be off. Issuing "xset dpms force off" will
bring that "cable not connect" right away. Could it be anyway related to
bad BIOS' ACPI settings? This is a long going issue. Can we raise this
ticket somehow?
