Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apparmor

/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/X contains the line:

  # .Xauthority files required for X connections, per user
  @{HOME}/.Xauthority        r,

which is fine in principal, but on my system gdm has set XAUTHORITY to:

$ env |grep XAUTH
XAUTHORITY=/var/run/gdm/auth-for-dg-7p7cxU/database

so I think all X apps are trying to access that instead of ~/.Xauthority
