Reproducible on a fresh lucid 32bit install here too:
- launch u-m from a terminal.
- wait a few hours (Hmm, I wonder if an apt-get update in another terminal
would have also worked?)
- click Install Updates. Nothing happens, but there is a message on the
terminal:

this package.
I would have attached /var/log/dpkg/status, but /var/log/dpkg/ does not
exist. :P
